7A Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1) The opportunity I would like to pursue is the inconvenience for property managers and tenant to agree on repairs and contact a vendor and keep in contact through vendor all throughout the process.

2) The hypothesis for this opportunity is:
  • Getting household repairs for tenants and property managers can be a hassle when dealing                between each other and a third party vendor all through different platforms. This is because the tenant would want the property to be at the best condition possible, the property manager has to balance the happiness of the tenant and their profits and the vendors usually are not the most reliable businessmen when it comes to quotes and appointments.
3) Testing the who:  Although the 'who' may be specifically tenants and property managers it can also apply to homeowners. However not all property managers and tenants and homeowners have the same problems with handy repair companies.

Testing the what: Not all properties have this need, some properties have in-house handymen and repairs or lengthy contracts with specific companies. Also, new buildings would hardy need repairs for the first years while some homeowners choose to perform their own repairs.

Testing the why: Since the why in this opportunity comes from the degree of difficulty in contacting these kind of services the why could get tested heavily. Not every property manager or tenant has problems contacting and setting appointments with home repair companies. Some potential customers will have different why's, some may blame property managers for not fixing, other may blame the handymen for not completing a job correctly and some may even not be able to set appointments with the service.

4) For this part, I had interviews with homeowners, property managers, tenants and even home repair service handymen. All but the servicemen agreed that setting up contact and completing appointments for repair has its complications from busy schedules and a three way communication problems. Both the tenants and property managers agree that it is usually a struggle to agree on a repair on the property where both sides are happy, since they can have opposing goals. They also agree that one agreement can only bring more disruption once the repair company comes in the picture with their higher than expected quotes and busy schedules.  They both also agree that communication between the three parties could be better streamlined in a single platform where all parties are involved and attentive to the process.

5) What I've learned: From the interviews, I have learned that this issue is not seen as equally from both sides. Tenants and managers agree in the difficulty while repair services believe the system in place is well sufficient for its purpose. I have also learned how the big is the variability of repairs need in one household which goes to prove the difficulty for tenants and managers to be in touch with multiple companies that offer different services instead of one platform that can organize and streamline the company to the service requested.

Opportunity 1: Online sports gambling site.

With an increasing trend to sports gambling after the supreme court made it legal more people has started to join the industry and giving an online platform will be an easier way to serve to the customers need.

a) When Penn National Gaming purchased social media giant Barstool Sports. I realized that this gave Penn National Gaming unilateral access to a very broad target audience of sports fanatics who most already gambled through Barstool's platform.

b) There are very few leading online gambling sites and none control a majority in market share, leaving and opening for new companies. And that an industry leader is paying a hefty sum to have a leg-up on the competition is worth noting.

c) A sports fanatic who believes that he knows more than odd makers and prefers to gamble from home rather than physical location.

d) The opportunity would be in average difficulty to exploit because everything but getting the gambling license will be very straight forward. The site and infrastructure will mostly be automized so not much long term labor is required.

I saw this opportunity because I am very familiar with the industry of sports betting as well as online retail and e-commerce. And I realized that giving the average sports gambler the opportunity to place instant bets from the comfort of their own home could prove very profitable.

Opportunity 2:

With an increasing economic trend of online marketplaces and e-commerce there would be an opportunity in video game subscription services.

a) after searching the Xbox store to find a new game I was searching I came across the Month Pass, a subscription where you pay $12 per month to access about 100 video games that rotate out. But an even better idea would be a video game company where a subscription would be needed to access new and innovative games. And eventually start developing home-grown games.

b) This suggest that the subscription plan would work but it would be even more valuable if it encompassed new games and restricted games.

c) Would be the average games that isn't attached to any specific franchise and is willing to play multiple games.

d) This opportunity would be relatively hard to exploit since good networking would be need to establish the service as reputable and it could be costly to acquire new customers.

I saw this opportunity because I am an avid gamer and don't always know what game to play since I get bored of some very quickly.

Opportunity 3:

In Miami-Dade only two types of business are allowed to open, salons and restaurant's with patios to accommodate customers. Therefore it would be a good time to catch eager customers ready to leave their houses by investing in food trucks around the city.

a) I saw this new regulation in a press conference by Miami-Dade governor.

b) This new information will probably mean people will bolt to these opening businesses to spend their saved money and to leave their homes, safely.

c) Would be the average self-quarantined human who is eager to leave their home in search for activities outside.

d) This would be a relatively easy opportunity to exploit since food trucks are not very expensive and there will be a surplus of demand.

I was able to see this opportunity because I know many people eager to leave their own homes, safely, to do any activity outside. And I also know the marketability of food trucks in Miami being raised here.

Opportunity 4:

After new regulation requires most customers to wear mask when entering any grocery or most businesses there might be an opportunity for a service to customize your own personal mask.

a) I observed this new regulation whenever entering a Publix.

b) This new regulations will probably mean more businesses will likely adopt it for the safety of the customers and employees. And a personal mask will become a necessity.

c) Would be the average concerned customer who would still want to leave their homes for essential purchases.

d) This would be a relatively easy opportunity to exploit since mask material in relatively cheap and the infrastructure of product customization is prominent in our culture.

I was able to see this opportunity because I realized everything we have, from our haircuts to out houses are a part of our representation and a mask should be no less than that.
